Feijóo: "Sánchez's explanations are completely insufficient and disappointing."

He calls for early elections, but rules out a vote of no confidence because he doesn't want to give the current president "a breath of fresh air."

PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo has stated that Pedro Sánchez 's explanations after learning that Santos Cerdán may have managed commissions in public works contracts "are absolutely insufficient and disappointing."

"He must call elections immediately . There's no escape forward, it's an escape to nowhere," he said from his party's headquarters in Genoa.

Feijóo has denounced that Sánchez "cannot expect to outlive Ábalos first and Cerdán later," and has therefore asked the government's partners to "reflect" on the information of alleged corruption that is coming to light because "now they have to say whether they want to continue being accomplices."

Regarding the option of presenting a motion of no confidence , Feijóo was clear. "I'm not going to give him a lifeline to get him ratified as president of the Spanish government." He also announced that more corruption cases within the current government will come to light, something that won't surprise him, since Sánchez has been "capable of deceiving his own party colleagues" since the 2014 primaries .

Regarding the audit of the PSOE's accounts announced by its general secretary, Feijóo stated that the audit must be carried out within the government because public contracts "belong to the government and are the ones that have been rigged." This, he said, is what must be audited "down to the last cent," and that is why, he insisted, Sánchez "has to go."

"It's no longer the Koldo case, it's no longer the Ábalos case. It's the Sánchez case . Sánchez is in the middle, at the center of the entire case," he concluded.

Therefore, given the seriousness of the events revealed today, the PP leader has announced that he is breaking off relations with Sánchez , justifying his absence from the institutional event at the Royal Palace marking the 40th anniversary of the signing of the European Union accession treaty. He argued that he could not "share the stage" with a president besieged by corruption . "I apologize to the Head of State, but I am convinced that they will understand," he said.

To support his decision, Feijóo listed people under judicial investigation or political suspicion , which includes "the president's wife, the president's brother, the president's former deputy, the president's current deputy, some of the president's closest advisors, or even the Attorney General of the State."
